I want to represent an idea
I want to represent the idea that
you really can make what you want
I want my life
I want my work
I want it to mean something
I want the world to be better because I was here
Every single day when you wake up, you got two options
You can look at the clock and hit the snooze
You can look at that snooze button
Boom you can hit the snooze button and go back to bed
And dream about what you want to have
You know watching MTV
Watching VET
Read magazines and dream about what you want to be
OR
You can look at the snooze button
Kick that clock and get up
And go pursue your dreams
Everyday you wake up you gotta start with that vision

Video Transcript:
Most of us go through life pretending that we don’t have any special goals or ambitions or desires when really deep down inside we do really want more.  We block ourselves and we use these words almost like we’re in a trance, like we’re sleep-walking through life, that we find ways to cancel out our dreams, that a lot of things that we want to do, a lot of places we would like to go, a lot of things we would like to experience, and we just stop at “but”.
“But” will cause you to hide out behind fear. “But” will cause you to come up with all types of excuses that you can validate your inaction and not acting on your dream. “But” is a dream-killer.
But most people, you know what they do?  Most people go through life quietly and safely tiptoeing to an early grave.  We’ve been holding back, we have ideas that we don’t act on, things that we want to do, we’re afraid to take chances.  See, a lot of people say no to things and they don’t even know what they’re saying no to!  Don’t allow “but” to keep you in the corner.
There’re a lot of people who say, “But I tried once,” or “twice,” “and it didn’t work out,” and so they use that as an excuse not to ever come out again.  Even if things don’t work out, even if I experience defeat or failure, that does not make me a failure.  There’s a difference between failing and being a failure.  If things don’t work out, if you don’t produce the results you want, that’s all, but don’t confuse who you are with the results that you produce.  Do what you can, where you are, with what you have, and never be satisfied.  Yeah, don’t get satisfied with yourself.  Always know that wherever you are, you can enjoy more, that you deserve more.  Why don’t you decide now that you gonna expand your world, that if other people can learn, you can learn, too.
If you’re working on you dream, sure they’re gonna be times when you’re gonna want to give up, sure there will be times when Life will knock you down and catch you on the blind side, but the challenge is to hold on.  And if you hold on tenaciously, I say the universe is on your side. See, if you don’t decide to act on your dream, if you don’t decide to make a decision to live your life, if you don’t decide to step into your fears, if you don’t decide to say yes to your life, it will never work for you. You’ve got to live what’s in you, life is too short and unpredictable.
But what do we say? “But there will always be tomorrow.” Oh, no. There’s no guarantees that you’re gonna show up tomorrow.  Always something there, to build a case on why you can’t move on, why you can’t grow to the next level, why you can’t begin to manifest your greatness, why you can’t begin to live life on your terms, that you’re gonna say “it’s not worth it.”  Yes, that’s going to be right there for you, it’s going to be in your face, telling you to go back.  So if you want to do something, if you’ve thought about something you want to do, take it head-on.  Life will never be the same again.
Live your dream.
Is it possible for you to have all your dreams become a reality in your lifetime? Yes, it is possible, but the real question you should be asking yourself: Have you made the decision?

Video Transcript:
If tomorrow wasn’t promised, what would you give for today?
Forget everything else. Forget that there was any sunlight left. What would you spend today…thinking about? Yourself? Or the man that’s beside you?
We get one opportunity in life.
What if the job you have, is the only job you get this year? What if the relationship you’re in, what if that is the only relationship you get this year? What if what you have is all you get and you don’t get no more. What if they not give us more, then what we gonna do?
How many of you know, that if you had your life to live over again, you can do more than what you’ve done That proves a point. That what we do and what we accomplish in life is only a tip of the iceberg, what’s possible for us.
Based on all the evidence we have, we estimate you have 30 days left.
I refuse to die an unlived life.
If you die, this very moment. What will die with you? What dreams? What ideas? What talents? What leadership potential? What greatness that you showed up to brand. That you allowed fear and procrastination to hold you back. Only to realized that you’ve never lived, only to realized that you never scraped this surface of your potential.
It’s like everything everywhere is going crazy, that we don’t go out any more. We sit in the house, and slowly the world we’re living in is getting smaller, and all we say is, “Please, at least leave us alone in our living rooms. Let me have my toaster and my TV and my steel-belted radio, and I won’t say anything. Just leave us alone.” Well I’m not going to leave you alone. I want you to get mad!
See most people stop short of their dreams because of the rejections of life. You will always be rejected.
I don’t want you to protest. I don’t want you to riot. I don’t want you to write to your Congressman, because I wouldn’t know what to tell you to write. I don’t know what to do about the Depression and the inflation and the crimes in the street. All I know is that first, you’ve got to get mad. You’ve gotta say “I’M A HUMAN BEING, GOD DAMN IT! MY LIFE HAS VALUE!”
Whatever legacy you’re gonna leave. Leave your legacy. Wins and losses come a dime a dozen. But effort? Nobody can judge effort.
Every time someone says ‘NO’ that brings you to another step…to a ‘YES’. You are getting closer, trust me. You will win, if you don’t quit.
So that team that thinks they’ve already seen you? They think what they’ve seen on film. They ain’t saw what film shows. Because every day is a new day. Every moment is a new moment. So now you got to go out and show them, that you’re a different creature, now!
Everybody got a dream. Everybody got a goal. The question is, when you wake up in the morning, what effort you’ll put in for?
If you died, this very moment. What will die with you? What dreams? What ideas? What talents? What greatness that you showed up to brand?
We get one opportunity in life…one chance in life.

Grit – The Power of Passion and Perseverance

Transcript:
When I was 27 years old, I left a very demanding job in management consulting for a job that was even more demanding: teaching. I went to teach seventh graders math in the New York City public schools. And like any teacher, I made quizzes and tests. I gave out homework assignments. When the work came back, I calculated grades.
What struck me was that IQ was not the only difference between my best and my worst students. Some of my strongest performers did not have stratospheric IQ scores. Some of my smartest kids weren’t doing so well. And that got me thinking. The kinds of things you need to learn in seventh grade math, sure, they’re hard: ratios, decimals, the area of a parallelogram. But these concepts are not impossible, and I was firmly convinced that every one of my students could learn the material if they worked hard and long enough.
After several more years of teaching, I came to the conclusion that what we need in education is a much better understanding of students and learning from a motivational perspective, from a psychological perspective. In education, the one thing we know how to measure best is IQ. But what if doing well in school and in life depends on much more than your ability to learn quickly and easily?
So I left the classroom, and I went to graduate school to become a psychologist. I started studying kids and adults in all kinds of super challenging settings, and in every study my question was, who is successful here and why? My research team and I went to West Point Military Academy. We tried to predict which cadets would stay in military training and which would drop out. We went to the National Spelling Bee and tried to predict which children would advance farthest in competition. We studied rookie teachers working in really tough neighborhoods, asking which teachers are still going to be here in teaching by the end of the school year, and of those, who will be the most effective at improving learning outcomes for their students? We partnered with private companies, asking, which of these salespeople is going to keep their jobs? And who’s going to earn the most money? In all those very different contexts, one characteristic emerged as a significant predictor of success. And it wasn’t social intelligence. It wasn’t good looks, physical health, and it wasn’t IQ. It was grit.
Grit is passion and perseverance for very long-term goals. Grit is having stamina. Grit is sticking with your future, day in, day out, not just for the week, not just for the month, but for years, and working really hard to make that future a reality. Grit is living life like it’s a marathon, not a sprint.
A few years ago, I started studying grit in the Chicago public schools. I asked thousands of high school juniors to take grit questionnaires, and then waited around more than a year to see who would graduate. Turns out that grittier kids were significantly more likely to graduate, even when I matched them on every characteristic I could measure, things like family income, standardized achievement test scores, even how safe kids felt when they were at school. So it’s not just at West Point or the National Spelling Bee that grit matters. It’s also in school, especially for kids at risk for dropping out.
To me, the most shocking thing about grit is how little we know, how little science knows, about building it. Every day, parents and teachers ask me, “How do I build grit in kids? What do I do to teach kids a solid work ethic? How do I keep them motivated for the long run?” The honest answer is, I don’t know.
What I do know is that talent doesn’t make you gritty. Our data show very clearly that there are many talented individuals who simply do not follow through on their commitments. In fact, in our data, grit is usually unrelated or even inversely related to measures of talent.
So far, the best idea I’ve heard about building grit in kids is something called “growth mindset.” This is an idea developed at Stanford University by Carol Dweck, and it is the belief that the ability to learn is not fixed, that it can change with your effort. Dr. Dweck has shown that when kids read and learn about the brain and how it changes and grows in response to challenge, they’re much more likely to persevere when they fail, because they don’t believe that failure is a permanent condition.
So growth mindset is a great idea for building grit. But we need more. And that’s where I’m going to end my remarks, because that’s where we are. That’s the work that stands before us. We need to take our best ideas, our strongest intuitions, and we need to test them. We need to measure whether we’ve been successful, and we have to be willing to fail, to be wrong, to start over again with lessons learned.
In other words, we need to be gritty about getting our kids grittier.
Thank you.

If there is anything in Life that you don’t currently have right now
is because of who you are and how you think.
What I need you to do is,
I need you to find the reason to keep going.
And if you could find the reason to keep going,
I know you strong enough to do it because you are human.
And every human has what it takes
to get past whatever they are going through,
if they decide to…
Push through it.
Push through it.
Tragedy and trials come to everybody.
Only the strong survive.

Listen to me very closely.
You’re running from obstacles,
when in fact it’s the obstacles,
that’s gonna take you to the next level.
Like you’re running from pain!
You’re running from challenges!
You telling me how difficult your Life is.
Do you understand it is the difficulty
that’s gonna prepare you and take you to that next level?

To grow the individual will to become something,
you must get comfortable with fear and failure.
They must be your best friends.
They are the only ones that moves that needle of Life.

And the difference between a champion
and someone who is forgotten.
Is that a champions shows up.
That’s the only thing, everyday shows up.
Gives himself a chance to make a difference.
Because success doesn’t know these things
about cold or early or tired.
It just knows if you showed up or not.

For some of you when you do what you do,
you act as if you have another opportunity.
Every opportunity is the last opportunity!
You can’t just say you want it.
You can’t watch the video and say…
“I want this as bad as I want to breathe.”
It’s cute to say it
but when it’s ShowTime,
when the sun comes up,
you got all the books,
you got all the tapes,
you got all the access,
now it’s time to hunt!

If it was easy everybody would do it,
but if Life got you down, I need you to get up.
And prove them wrong.

It’s gonna rain sometimes,
I will.
You’re gonna feel discouraged sometimes.
I will.
No matter what the obstacles.
I will.
I will.
I WILL

A true hunter’s goal is not the prize.
A true hunter’s goal is to hunt.
That’s what they live for.
They live to hunt.
It’s the whole process.

~The journey to your dreams always starts from within~
